My name is Diane Leggett, Structured Instruction Teacher (SI). I am so excited about this school year! I have been teaching special education since 1994 and am looking forward to teaching the SI class as I go into my 28th year of teaching! I have been with Waxahachie ISD for 19 years and have been at Shackelford as the Resource/Content Mastery/Inclusion/Coteacher for 13 years. This is my 4th year to lead the Structured Instruction classroom and help our students that are in need of additional support and services to be successful academically and socially at school!
I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Jerry Leggett, a former Science teacher at Finley Junior High School, for 39 years. We have two sons, Jacob Leggett, age 34, and Jordan Leggett, age 21. Jacob lives in Austin, Texas, and is the Team Lead and Technical Account Manager at Hostway Services, Inc. Jordan lives at home and is busy on his computer, learning new skills every day!
As the mom of a child on the autism spectrum, I am looking forward to working with my students and providing them with the tools that they need to be successful at school in the general education classroom and in all transitional areas, along with providing social skills lessons that are hands-on, fun, and can be applied to everyday life. I am also excited to work with my student's parents as a team and helping them through this incredible journey. I look forward to collaborating with them and creating supports that they need for their child to be successful as they transition between home and school.
